50th Sprite 2010

SPRITE CELEBRATES HALF A CENTURY IN SA - NEW RANGE LAUNCHED

19 February 2010

Sprite, the caravan that made caravanning a favourite pastime among South Africans, has now been with us for fifty popular years.

To celebrate, Sprite has redesigned and relaunched the range and will proudly unveil the new Sprite Swing, Splash and Sprint at the Beeld Show, Gallagher Estate, on Friday 19 February.

As fifty years ago, so today - many first-time caravan lovers choose a Sprite in which to discover the delights of affordable vacations. The Sprite range has the perfect choice for the young family, and seasoned veterans agree that the Sprite range is arguably the best value-for-money available. After all, Sprite models boast all the attributes that have made these caravans such a favourite. They are light and easy to tow, even easier to manoeuvre on site.

For the young at heart who look for affordable pricing but insist on style, Sprite caravans are aeons ahead. Even more so now, thanks to the celebratory restyling. All the upholstery, furnishings and fittings are new and vibrate with exciting, young colours. From the outside, the corner covers are cool and funky- Sprint with a stylish lime green, Swing in light blue, and Splash with its bright blue.

Sprint for first

The Sprite Sprint has two berths in the form of an island bed, a dinette, and heavy-duty vinyl cushion flooring. There is very practical washable Renolit wall and furniture covering, colour-coordinated upholstery and window blinds, and soft-edge corners to all worktops. Interior LED lights and exterior patio light are included along with exterior 220-volt multiplug, overhead lockers, and wardrobes, and the fridge has a generous 210-litre capacity. Microwave is optional, and there is storage for a 4,5-kilogram gas bottle. Taking the interior volume into the outdoors is a highly useful rally awning.

Swing it in style

Next up is the Sprite Swing, a four-berth vehicle with island bed plus double bed converting into a dinette. Like the Sprint, the Swing has heavy-duty vinyl cushion flooring and washable Renolit wall and furniture covering. Upholstery and window blinds are colour coordinated, and soft-edge corners feature on all worktops. Interior LED lights and exterior patio light are included along with exterior 220-volt multiplug, overhead lockers, and wardrobes. In the galley is a 210-litre fridge, and the Swing comes with 12-volt water pump, vanity basin, 4,5-kilogram gas bottle, 25-litre water bottle, and exterior kitchen with pullout sink and two-burner gas stove plus the option of a 19-litre microwave. The Swing comes with a full tent and ground sheet as a convenient way to increase the living area of this stylish vehicle.

Splash out on the best

Splash is the top end of the Sprite range, with everything that the Swing has plus even more space. Whereas the Sprint measures 3711 mm interior length, the Swing has 4287 mm and the Splash an extensive 4933 mm. All three have an interior width of 2030 mm. And, naturally, the range has a modular bolted chassis, easy-to-use parking jacks, and 12 mm solid ply floor under that vinyl cushion flooring. The light-grey body panels have an insulated sandwich-panel construction, and there is a fibreglass front and rear plus one-piece soffit and roof.       There is plenty of intelligently designed storage space, including tent-pole hatches, front hatches, overhead lockers and storage integrated into the island bed.

The new Sprite range is sure to prove as big a hit as all its long line of predecessors, and caravan lovers can look forward to another fifty years of South Africa’s favourite caravans.
